When someone says American Beers, a lot of people instantly think of the big, commercial and tasteless beers like Budweiser and Coors.  Well, forget them, because American Craft Beers are up-and-coming in the speciality beer world, this is due to the great diversity in styles of beer produced by the Craft Breweries and the huge passion for flavour and balance.

We have a treat for you here at The Dev Cat:

Arcadia Brewing Company - Michigan



Arcadia Brewing Company was established in 1996 as a microbrewery specializing in handcrafted British-style ales. All of their beers are produced in small batches, and its 25 Barrel Peter Austin Brewery and methods originated in England, which allows this style of beer to reflect over 250 years of world class brewing heritage.

  • IPA    6%    355ML         £4.10
Aroma is big on sharp, floral, acrid hops, with a big note of grapefruit. Palate is a little more balanced, with some lightly sweet pale malt to temper the dose of citrusy hops. A nice grapefruit bitterness lingers on the finish. Body is nice and lively, a bit creamy. Good for the style.


  • SKY HIGH RYE PALE ALE 6% 355ML         £4.00
The flavour is sharp and spritzy up front. Bright flavours of citrus, pineapple along with slightly darker notes of rye come through quite well. Pronounced grassy hop flavours as well with some malt balance in the backend. The finish was actually sweeter than what I expected it to be. The body was medium and the beer was well carbonated.


Uncommon Brewers - California

Uncommon Brewers (UB) is a community-oriented organic microbrewery beginning operations in Santa Cruz county. Incorporating traditional Belgian brewing techniques, cutting-edge innovation from the modern West Coast, and grounded in the principles of sustainability voiced by the Slow Food Movement, our goal is to make uncommon beers for uncommon people. After nearly six years of research and development, we are now ready to bring that vision to market.

  • SIAMESE TWINS ALE 473ML 8.5% £4.99
It is a traditional Belgian-style Double seasoned with coriander and entirely uncommon Thai spices. At first surprising, the floral notes of lemongrass and sharper bite of kaffir lime blend with the deep malt of this double to produce a dangerously drinkable beer.



Tommyknocker Brewery - Idaho

Located in the Colorado Mountains in the cosy historic mining town of Idaho Springs. You can still feel the presence of the miners and see how the town looked during the mining days of the 1890’s.

  • MAPLE NUT BROWN ALE 4.5%    355ML      £3.85
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavour produced by chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content.

    This American-style wheat ale is a light, unfiltered brew with a citrus aroma andflavor imparted by a late addition of lemon grass. This unfiltered beer retains all of its protein, flavour, and some of its yeast, resulting in a traditionally cloudy appearance. It's the perfect refreshment for a thirsty, trail weary, ale lover.

    Uinta Brewery - Utah


    Uinta Brewing is named after an east-west mountain range located in north-eastern Utah. Many of Uinta’s beer names are inspired by Utah’s diverse landscapes or have historical significance. Cutthroat Pale Ale, Uinta’s flagship beer, is named after Utah’s state fish.

    First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV.

    Moylan's Brewing Co - California

    In 1995 Moylan's Brewing Co. opened at Rowland Plaza, bringing Novato into the ranks of other world class brew towns like Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington by claiming the rights to it’s own Microbrewery thanks to bay area native Brendan Moylan. The 44 year old co-owner of Marin Brewing Company in Larkspur, Brendan brings more than 28 years of brewing experience to Novato, which began with his first home brewing kit one year after college.

    The Irish brewers of Dublin brewed the "Porter Style" until the mid 1970's and we here at Moylan's have decided to revive this classic brew. Chelsea Moylan's Porter is a rich, robust porter cleverly crafted to integrate the aromas and flavours of espresso coffee malt and bitter-sweet chocolate malt. Inspired by our founder's daughter, Chelsea, we hope to begin a new tradition of brewing an American-Irish Style Porter that any black beer lover will enjoy.

    Robust and Strapping , Our Scotch Ale takes BIG Beers to a whole new level.     The brewery is located on an old dairy farm.  The ethos of the brewery seems to be down to earth people brewing good, straightforward ales.  The website is definitely worth checking out.

    • PORKSLAP PALE ALE 4.3% 355ML (CAN) £3.75

    Porkslap Pale Ale is brewed with 2 rows North American barley and English crystal malt. The beer is flavoured with crystal hop and a touch of fresh ginger to create a distinct flavour only a porkslapper can love. At 4.3% Abv this beer is designed to have a good ale flavour and a crisp mild finish.
     

    • MOO THUNDER STOUT 4.9% 355ML (CAN) £3.85
    This stout beer pays tribute to the Butternuts Brewery's former life as a dairy farm. It's a more drinkable version of the Stout breed than its heavy, boorish and smelly European sisters. We use lactose sugar for body and mouthfeel; not too strong, not too viscous at 4.9% Abv. Unlike a true bovine it has a malty, roasty aroma and a dry finish but no tail or teats, and leaves no unsightly cow pies laying around the yard for you to step in.


    Big Sky Brewing Co. - Montana

    Big Sky Brewing Company was started by Neal Leathers, Bjorn Nabozney, and Brad Robinson. Brad and Neal had been homebrewers in Michigan since the mid 1980’s, and had moved to Missoula with a group of friends in the summer of 1990. In the early ‘90s they worked at Sportsmen’s Surplus and High Country Sports where they met Bjorn. One of Brad’s first nights in Missoula was spent at the old Iron Horse when it was attached to Bayern Brewing Company down at the end of Higgins Avenue. He was impressed by Bayern’s lagers, but felt that there was room in Missoula for a second brewery; and since Neal and Brad specialized in brewing English style ales he felt that an ale brewery would be producing very different beers than Bayern Brewing Company did. Neal agreed, and the two began to work on starting up a brewery.

    Summer Honey is a full-flavoured summer seasonal ale. Brewed with a unique, balanced blend of spices, Northwest Hops, and Montana honey. Summer Honey is brewed during the early days of spring and released around the first of May each year. Light collared, light bodied, and very drinkable, Summer Honey sacrifices nothing to create a flavourful beer that can be enjoyed during the height of the Summer.

    That first taste, the best part of a beer after a long day. We want to make that better than ever. So we made Moose Drool. The name sounds a little iffy, but it's really the best Brown Ale you'll ever taste. That's why Moose Drool is far and away the best-selling beer brewed in Montana. 

    It's chocolate brown in colour with a creamy texture. A malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spice added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette Hops.

    Stone Brewing Co. is a craft brewery headquartered in Escondido, California. It was founded in 1996 in San Marcos, California.
     
    Stone Brewing is known for the aggressive Arrogant Bastard Ale, although the brewery considers Stone Pale Ale and Stone IPA to be its flagship beers.

Smooth, with chocolate and coffee-like flavours balanced by the subtle "smoky" character of just the right amount of peat-smoked specialty malt.
       

      • SELF-RIGHTEOUS ALE   8.7% 650ML        £8.00
      Very rich malty aroma- chocolate sweetness with some fruit and alcohol notes.
      Begins with fruit smells and sweet coffee flavours, giving way to piney and bitter hops. Finishes with bittersweet chocolate and alcohol notes. Leaves behind a coffee/chocolate taste in the throat.
