Cantillon Gueuze

Cantillon Gueuze
Price: £4.65
Description
The Cantillon Brewery has just celebrated its one-hundredth anniversary and remains the only active brewery in Brussels which is open to the public. In order to achieve its aim of preserving the name and reputation of the lambic as well as some other beers from the same family, the brewery decided, in 1978, to open its facilities to the public and to become the Brussels Gueuze Museum. The brewery produces the Cantillon beers (gueuze, kriek, lambic, faro, framboise, Iris). As well as guided tours, brewing sessions in public take place twice a year. This live museum has Jean-Pierre Van Roy as its master brewer who keeps the family tradition alive. They also boast a star in the Michelin Guide.

Champagne like blend of old and new lambics, violently fused together in an explosion (geyser/geuze) of taste 5%abv.

A lambic is a spontaneously fermented beer, very old fashioned and exclusive in the world to the region around Brussels, wild yeast is encouraged to blow into the mash and ferment the liquid creating a distinct sour beer.

Still run by the Van Roy family in Anderlecht established two generations ago. Founded in 1900 Cantillon is a splendid anachronism in the modern world of brewing and believed by some to be the supreme lambic brewer and blender. All the cantillon brews are uncompromisingly sour and are possibly too sour and dry for the unsuspecting palette!
