Description
An old favourite at the Devonshire Cat, 5%.
The definitive ale of Belgium, as anyone who has been to Antwerp will tell you, is De Koninck's top fermented ale.
This beer is what one could describe as the closest the Belgians get to a good English bitter. De Koninck is as famous as Diamonds in Antwerp and the taste reveals why. The Beer is served in a distinctive 'bolleke' (little ball!!) shaped goblet, prompting the catchphrase 'ein bollecke De Koninck'. The company is credited with staying with traditional top-fermented ale when all others moved to the German pilsner style.
The name of the beer means King in Flemish and the glass often has a self potrait of Antwerp's Jan Van Eyke, (Famous for painting King Charles I of England), on the front.
