Gordon's Scotch Ale

Gordon's Scotch Ale
Price: £3.95
Description
Known in the UK as Mcewan's special export this strong beer, 8.6%. Is brewed extra strong for the Belgian market. The brewers Scottish & Newcastle have never attempted to market such a strong and expensive drink in the UK but the French and Belgians have been enjoying the treacle-like malty brews of Scotland since British soldiers introduced them in World War 2. The beer also known as Douglas Ale is a heavy aperitif enjoyable as a nightcap and most popular in winter time. If you like em sweet & malty this could be a favourite.

Poured a dark copper / chestnut colour. Creamy head poured thick and foamy then faded quite slowly to thickish layer... sparse carbonation... lots of sticky lacing coats the glass almost until the end..

Aroma - Nice lightly toasted biscuity malts, fairly strong toffee / caramel sweetness, nutmeg hints, spicy / peppery hop bitterness, typical Belgian bready / yeasty notes, spicy fruits (raisins, figs, oranges), quite strong rum / whiskey traces, some butterscotch...

Taste - Quite strong sweet toasty caramel malts, buttery, some treacle notes, toffee, alcohol soaked fruits (figs, apples, dates, bitter orages), peppery hops, oaky hints, creamy notes, bready, quite nutty...

33cl bottle.
