Description A high quality abbey beer from the small town of Watou, 6.7% St Bernardus is brewed in Watou near Popperinge in Belgium,it is a thick creamy ruby ale with strong fruity tones an excellent trappist style beer. The brewery has been established since the Second World War when it was commissioned to make beers under the ST Sixtus banner for a trappist monastry in near-by Ypres. In the 1990s this commission was no longer required and the beers became more commonly known as ST Bernardus beers. The beers directly immitate the complex fruity ales of the trappist monastry of St Sixtus known as Westvleeteren the only trappist beers not available at the Devonshire Cat. Westvleeteren beers are excellent but difficult to acquire, their fame has been spread throughout the world partly by the quality imitations produced by St Bernardus.
