Description
Produced in Somerset primarily from English bittersweet apples, and undergoing the traditional cool filtration process to create a cider with real character: crisp and refreshing with a smooth 'appley' taste and a bright sparkle.
Thatcher’s have been freshly pressing their own apples into oak-matured ciders since 1904 when William John Thatcher first began making cider on the family farm in Sandford to use as part of his farm-workers’ wages.
Thatcher’s own orchard apples are mainly traditional cider apples known as ‘bittersweet’ or ‘bittersharp’. These apples are chosen for cider-making for their fibrous nature which makes them easy to press. Bittersweet apples also have high levels of tannin which is essential for producing great tasting cider.
