Description
4.8% - 50cl.
This beer is regarded by many as one of Germany's very best examples in the pilsener style; it's a pale golden, with a good rocky head and a lively but fine carbonation. The aroma is dry and with a slight earthiness to the hop scents, leading to a clean and overall notably dry palate but with a softly sweet touch to the texture, giving a body that's weightier than some of the more lightweight lagers without sacrificing the very easy drinkability. There's biscuity malt, a little spreading floweriness and some chewy bitterness. Very well-balanced with lots of flavour and a good body but still hoppy and refreshing.
Veltins is brewed in Sauerland
, near Dortmund to the German Purity Law of 1516. Brauerei C & A Veltins is a brewery in the west German city of Meschede-Grevenstein. Veltins ranks number 7 among Germany's best selling breweries. The small guesthouse brewery of Franz Kramer opened its simple wooden gates in 1824. Clemens Veltins took over the brewery in 1852. The new name, Brauerei C & A Veltins, came from the twins Carl and Anton Veltins who took over the company from their father in 1893.
Veltins prides itself on using the best natural ingredients, in accordance with the German Purity law of 1516 – only allowing the use of malt, hops, yeast and water in the brewing process. The hops used in the process are taken from the Hallertau (Perle and Magnum varieties), Tettnang and the Czech Republic (Saaz). Veltins employs a permanent specialist in the Hallertau to monitor the hop crop, and has its own test gardens there.
The firm also places a great emphasis on its water source and the family’s traditional recipe to ensure a great tasting brew.
This beer would pair really well with japenese or german cuisine, peppery cheeses and poultry or fish dishes.
